Announcement: Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Program
The Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s (ABM) Degree allows exceptional undergraduate students from any major across NC State University an opportunity to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree at an accelerated pace.

Alumna Spotlight: Simone Keith ’03
Simone is currently on staff at NC State University where she is a videographer and video editor with University Communications. She is the recipient of two Emmy® awards for her work with the weekly gardening show “In The Garden With Bryce Lane.”
Faculty Spotlight: An Interview with Dr. Leila May
MALS is proud to feature Dr. Leila May! Dr. May is a member of the English Department at NC State. Her seminar for Fall 2016 focuses on women writers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Student Spotlight: David Merles
Merles was born in Cleveland, OH, but moved to Atlanta, GA during his freshman year of high school. His family is still in Atlanta, so he claims both as his home–although, he roots for Cleveland sports! He is active duty military and was stationed for three years in Raleigh-Durham to serve as the Marine Officer Instructor for the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) at North Carolina State University, Duke University, and UNC Chapel Hill as well.
Fall 2016 Seminars
Women and Madness
MALS is proud to present “Women and Madness,” taught by Dr. Leila May. Reading assignments for this course will involve a number of well-known women writers who deal with the ways in which gender, race, sexuality and class intersect and function in the construction of identity, and, in particular, female identity.
Religion, Disaster, and Development
MALS is proud to present “Religion, Disaster, and Development” taught by Dr. Levi McLaughlin. In this course, students will read the latest research on the intersection of religion and disaster, analyze primary sources, and take advantage of documentary films and other records in order to understand the role of religion in disaster and post-disaster development.
